Understanding the Parameters
- $IL$ — known performance at $f_0$ (test data or design point).

$f/f_0$ — scales that value linearly (rough heuristic for some trends; wrong for resonant mufflers, TL plateaus, etc.).

Derivation (Approaching a Proof)
Definition (physical IL): insert a device in a duct or path; IL is the drop in transmitted level at a receiver. This calculator: multiplies a reference dB value by a frequency ratio — a dimensional bookkeeping shortcut, not derived from wave equations.
History
